Natural History, NY Times, and Yankees

Going Places?

Ok maybe not that exotic, but we did take a trip to the Museum of Natural History!

Just in time for the end of the world too.
According to the Aztecs.

Hundred of carats of diamonds right there.

Below is a Chinese wedding carriage.
Amazing!

It was Cinco de Mayo, so we got fabulous Mexican food
(yes, I did call Mexican food in New York fabulous. Just the one place.)
at the cute place on the west side of Central Park.

And then the other BYU interns and I took a tour of The New York Times!

It was surprisingly quiet in there.
Gone are the days of shouting over cubicles and typewriters and papers flying.
Sorry Woodward and Bernstein.

They did have this incredible wall of data.
Steaming incessant data, all the time, on these little screens.
Random bits of data, like a comment on the NYTimes website or a note taken for a story.
They told us you could look at it all day and not get an early scoop on something.
Didn't stop us from taking a peek.

And how 'bout them Yankees?
We watched them dominate the Tampa Bay Rays on a (chilly!) Thursday evening.

 It was a low-scoring game,
(I think the final was 5-2?)
but it was great being in the stands, singing along with the organ,
and shouting for joy when we hit a home run.

I laughed so hard I cried after I saw that picture.

We took some normal ones, not to worry.

Oh! And this is jumping ahead - but just yesterday Miriam and I saw these guys playing in the subway.
They're good.

Max there is on the hammered dulcimer.
Their website says they're a 3 person earth-music band who have traveled overseas to train with the experts on their instruments.

They were so impressive!
I bought their CD.
Take a listen on their website: www.houseofwaters.com

Nice and peaceful.
A break from the car horns and sirens outside my window.
Enjoy!

Fawks Nooz in Neu Yaurk

I don't work at Fox News.
I work at Fawks Nooz.

And I live in Neu Yaurk,
not New York.

It's a JOY every single day.

I wake up,
pull my blinds, and look outside
at the Grant Memorial Tomb, Sakura Park, and the Hudson River.
Glorious.
I reach up and stretch-
banging my arms on the walls of my shoe-box room-
and get to experience New York City for one more day.

Fox News Channel is right in Times Square.

SO COOL.
For about three days.

Then I realized I have to battle tourists at every corner,
and pay the tourist price for lunch.
On the other hand, I'm right in the center of everything.

News is everywhere in New York City.

I've never been anywhere else like it.
No wonder the network is based there - half the nation's news has some kind of tie to the city.
I've been out with the Occupy Wall Street rioters in Bryant Park and Union Square

watched the US Shuttle Enterprise fly over the Hudson from the port of the Intrepid Aircraft Carrier Museum

and heard Vice President Joe Biden speak at New York University.

It's a dream!

And on the weekends I've been traveling all over the island being a total tourist with the other interns.

Those are gallons of olives!
Love the Fairway Market.
And those are the shoes of two lucky girls.
Miriam and myself.
We won the Broadway lottery and watched the musical "Ghost" from the front row.
We LOVED it.
Miriam works in Chelsea.
So far, it's my favorite borough.

Seinfeld's Restaurant.
Apparently the food there is horrible?

Below is the Museum of Natural History.
The "Night at the Museum" one.
And speaking of Ben Stiller..... that's him.
He and Kristen Wiig and Sean Penn are filming a movie outside my front door.
No big deal.

We also spent a Saturday in Brooklyn.
Er, I mean Bruuk'lin'.

We wouldn't have it any other way.

I've also been keeping a food photo diary.
More to come on that later -
for now just check out my Instagram.
I'm Brennagd.
